Item Number gs-1295. Item Number gs-1295An antique set of four Staddle stones were originally used as supporting bases for granaries, hayricks, game larders. The staddle stones lifted the granaries above the ground thereby protecting the stored grain from vermin and water seepage. In Middle English staddle, a foundation, support or trunk of a tree. They can be mainly found in England, Galicia, and Northern Spain. These stones make very nice and subtle garden ornaments. Wear consistent with age and use. Circa 1910 England
