TRUE BLUES
Blue is wildly popular in decor, but it’s not a color that people often get worked up about. In the gardening world, however, blue inspires debate (what is blue?), bickering (why are some people so mad for blue?), longing (have you ever seen a Himalayan blue poppy?), and snobbery (that’s not really blue). Why? Truly blue flowers are rare, despite all the catalogs hawking blues that are really purple. Blue in nature is serene-the color of a clear sky, a calm sea, a robin’s egg. But most of all, blue looks fantastic against green, which is only a shade apart from it on the color wheel. In the landscape, blue is simultaneously natural and otherworldly.
